Beginner Beekeeping Field Class $25 per person
Learn how to do a hive inspection, assessing for hive health, swarm behavior, and prospective harvest. Additional topics covered include bee biology, making a split, and counting mites.
Bring (all optional): a veil, smoker, hive tool; drinking water; camera; notebook. Plan to tie back long hair, and wear close-toed shoes and long pants.
Class will be held rain or shine.
Bob Redmond (instructor) is a state-certified Journeyman beekeeper with 10 years of beekeeping experience. Founder of Urban Bee Company and the non-profit The Common Acre, he currently manages 120 hives in the greater Seattle area, was co-Primary Investigator on a USDA study on wild bees, and instigated the Flight Path and Green Line pollinator conservation projects.
This is the first part of a series of beekeeping classes to be held at Carnation Farms.
